The carvings are about places I have been, which have influenced and mean much to me, and then overlaid with memories all the way back to childhood. Ideas come from exploring a journey moving through past and present, and with recurring themes such as the window – using the early Renaissance painter’s devise of different views in the same picture to tell different aspects of their story. I also owe a debt to the Surrealists who have allowed my imagination to roam freely throughout my life. My carving style has developed outside the sculptural mainstream using the practice of stories told in relief.
